Country's largest telecom operator Bharti Airtel's second quarter consolidated profit fell 6.6 percent sequentially to Rs 343 crore, dented by pricing pressure in India business;
Shares of Axis Bank Ltd jumped as much as 9.2 per cent as a media report said that Bain Capital is in talks with Axis Bank Ltd to invest between $750 million and $1 billion (Rs4,800-6,400 crore).
PSU banks had a day of correction, along with metals, energy and auto. Weak Chinese purchasing managers’ index (PMI) led to the downfall in metal stocks in India.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 85.45 points, or 0.36 percent, to 23,348.74, the S&P 500 lost 8.24 points, or 0.32 percent, to 2,572.83 and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 2.30 points, or 0.03 percent, to 6,698.96, Reuters reported.
